Tech diversity winners announced

The #TechDiversity Foundation has announced the 2018 award winners at its annual Gala event.

The awards recognise groups that actively champion diversity in the tech space through different initiatives and programs.

The nominations included groups from government, business, education and the media.

The award winners were:

• Innovation Minister’s Diversity Award: VIC ICT for Women for its Grad Girls Program

• Business Award: Outcome.life, for ‘Connecting Internationals into the Startup EcoSystem’

• Education Award: Queerly Represent Me for the Queerly Represent Me program

• Media Award: REA Group Ltd, for the Women In Technology Program

• Government Award: Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Rise at DHHS

There was also an overall #TechDiversity Champion awarded, with the Victorian DHHS taking the honour for its RISE at DHHS program, which creates opportunities for people on the autism spectrum to work for the DHHS as Records Management Officers.

“These organisations are leading lights across Melbourne and Australia’s tech industry and their commitment to diversity and inclusion is yielding real results,” said co-founder of the #TechDiversity Foundation, Deirdre Diamante.

“We couldn’t be prouder to showcase the dedication and incredible work of our deserving winners.”

Presenting his special Innovation Minister’s Diversity Award was State Member for Southern Metropolitan Region, Philip Dalidakis.

There were also a number of groups and organisations that received merit recognitions. They were: BeInSync, Telstra, FST Media, Code for Australia, City of Melbourne, Work180, University of Melbourne, Deakin University, Digital Technology Advisory Committee, The Yield, and Paddl Co.

Entries for the 2019 awards open in April.
